ICANN and Universal Postal Union finish negotiation for .POST

A non government organizatin has agreed with Universal Postal Union (www.upu.int), for the assignment of domain names and IP addresses, on the sponsorship of .POST top-level domain. Internet corporation for assignment of names and numbers (www.icann.org) made announcement that UPU is responsible for setting the rules for universal network of international postal email exchanges and it will be responsible for new TLD, when subjected to final approval of the public comment process and the board of directors.

The specialized agency of UN is UPU, which was established in 1874. It is one of the oldest organizations, having intergovernmental aspects. Both ICANN and UPU bear a number of resemblances, which are inclusive of active participation, by representation of the geographic diversified governments and constituencies. The organizations will make recognition for the traditional autonomy, mission and core values of their own.

This agreement also makes an important accomplishment for ICANN, UPU and global Internet community, as per ICANN CEO and president. He said that validation of model of ICANN, to foster expansion and innovation in the DNS. UPU has also assisted in marking out the path for IGOs, for sponsoring the top level domains and expansion of multi stake holder relationships.

.POST TLD would never have been possible, if there was no ICANN decision for the last year, to make new top-level domain names available; hence giving rigid domain system for any combination of letters, inclusive of Arabic, Asian or other scripts, not included in new world English Alphabets.
